Construction on the Villa Vettica project is underway, and the NOS team is paying careful attention to the selection of materials used. The concept called for highlighting local materials in order to restore the villa to its former glory, in keeping with its 18th century roots . Last week, Architect Benedetta Gargiulo Morelli was in Tivoli, hand-picking the beautiful marbles to be featured in the villa’s bathrooms and spa. The bathrooms at Villa Vettica will showcase a white Calacatta marble, with subtle grey veining. In the spa, the walls and floors will be covered with Rosa Portogallo marble, while the benches will offer contrast in the form of Travertino Rosso di Prussia marble.
This week, NOS architects Benedetta Gargiulo Morelli and Simona La Cognata were on-site helping to re-lay the original 18th-century terracotta and riggiola tiles. Riggiola are handpainted ceramic tiles, orginating from the area around Sorrento and Amalfi. During the demolition stage, NOS was careful to conserve the original tiles that had been a part of the villa since its construction in the 18th century. Additional tiles from La Riggiola were selected to blend in perfectly with the originals to create a cohesive look. Now, it is up to the expert piastrellisti to re-lay the tiles according to our architects’ designs, adding character to each room.
